With all the attention social networking sights have been receiving it is not always easy to see the impact they are having on the internet at large.
Sites that were once relegated to a few college campuses are establishing the new format of the internet. One field that has been slow to adopt cutting edge interfaces is the world of online commerce.
Now a few sites are coming around and establishing themselves as Community Oriented Marketplaces or COMs.
These E-ntrepreneurial ventures see the community aspect of social networking as returning a lost sense of interaction to the online sale.
With all its added convenience, early internet e-commerce left consumers alienated and retailers with no chance for feedback.
Now by leveraging the power of social networking and the simplicity of the profile format, online commerce has moved into a new venue and a new era.
